Hao Zhang
Hi! I am a first-year PhD student in the Trustworthy and General Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Department of Artificial Intelligence, at Westlake University, advised by Prof. Yaochu Jin.
I received dual bachelor’s degrees in Mechatronics Engineering and Software Engineering from Northwest A&F University in 2025.
Starting in 2024, I undertook research internships at Tsinghua University. I worked on a research project advised by Prof. Fuchun Sun at the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems in the Department of Computer Science and Technology. My internship at the Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR) was supervised by postdoctoral researchers Weibin Gu and Lu Shi.
Research interests
During my undergraduate studies, I focused on practical work in robot mobility and manipulation. I gained hands-on experience in engineering implementation and reproducing published research in perception, navigation, motion control, and manipulation across UAVs, UGVs, quadrupeds, humanoids, and robotic arms.
My research interests center on autonomous learning for embodied robots in unstructured, real-world environments. I am particularly interested in how robots can understand their own capabilities for movement and interaction, and incorporate models of these capabilities into perception, planning, and control to make feasible decisions about their actions given their embodiment and environmental constraints.
My current research focuses on robot motion control and autonomous navigation. In the future, I hope to extend this work to mobile manipulation and long-horizon task execution.
If you have ideas, projects, or an interest in collaborating on these topics, please feel free to get in touch.
